Hello again everyone!

It's time for a little art exploration. Last week was pretty neat, I loved what a lot of you had to say about style, and the meaning of art. This time I wanted to talk about unique things out there in the world, specifically the Gemüseorchester

Never heard of it? Well my friends you are in for a unique treat. Because this... is an orchestra. Not just any orchestra though! oh no. This is a very special collection of musicians who not only hand make their own instruments before each concert, but then turn around and feed their instruments to the audience after the performance in the form of a lovely soup.

That's right guys. Soup.

Have I lost you yet? You see, their instruments are made out of vegetables!

I find it kind of amazing that these creative musicians sculpt working instruments out of vegetables. They do anything from the standard 'pumpkin drum' to a flute actually carved out of a carrot. These aren't just people who can play the instrument, they can *make* them as well and that's profoundly amazing to me.

Their website is here:  www.vegetableorchestra.org/

Take a look around, what I like best was the q and a page. The replies to the questions were open, friendly, and somewhat hilarous.

What makes this really interesting to me is the answer to the question: are the members of the orchestra clasically trained musicians? how do you collaborate?

The reason why I find this fascinating is because of the fact that they consider themselves a diverse collection of artists working on one long, extensive collaboration project with all of the trials and tribulations that go along with such a venture. This isn't a conductor carefully guiding his crew, these are 13 people who have wildly different viewpoints all somehow managing to bring them together to create something pretty cool. Part of their answer is very, very important not just for artists in a collaboration, but for any conversation in general. "within the last years we had to develop a way of talking respectfully with each other."    I love how candid they were about the fact that respect didn't come easy, meshing their ideas wasn't some pure blend of perfection right from the start. They had to work to get where they are now and from what I can see, continue to work hard together.

Curious as to how vegetable music sounds? Look no further!  www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M__8T…

That is awesomeness in its purest form. Thanks for making me aware of this, Jess!
