Made of Earth and Stars

Concept
There is a Serbian proverb that's been making the rounds of the internet lately, that I really like. It says "Be humble, for you are made of Earth. Be noble, for you are made of Stars."

It really speaks to me on many, many levels, and so I wanted to paint a little of the imagery that comes to mind when I hear that proverb. Something to think about when I'm feeling self doubt. As always, whenever I do more introspective paintings, I notice I tend to draw the ever changing "Forever" Muse of mine as the central figure. It's nice to draw her again after years of not.

Materials
This piece is another of my mixed media. Watercolors were the bulk of the work, along with colored pencils for her skin, and acrylic for the stars. I also threw in white gauche for the light in her hands.

Side Notes
I have never been so annoyed with a painting, and so frustrated with it, as this one. Challenging myself to play with stronger light sources, and to try to bring more contrast to my pieces is something that always leaves me glaring at the art about midway through. But in the end I really like how this one came out.
