This is part of my colored pencil tutorial. I will be doing each part of this image seperately and showing step by step how I acheive each effect.
Please keep in mind that while the *techniques* I show are of course, yours to use... the image that I am working on does NOT fall under the fair use act, so you may not reproduce it.
Part one... the skin.
colors you need
I use prismacolor pencils, they work best with this technique.
Dark Umber
Sienna Brown
Peach
Light Peach
White
Black
Picture 1.
This is the basic sketch. Done rough, hard, and working out the lines that I like.
Picture 2.
I've transfered the image onto a natural brown cardstock, using white transfer paper. The lines are extremely light...they will not show through when I am finished.
Picture 3.
I go over all of the skin areas *including what will be beneath transparent fabric* with peach. Light strokes, not meant to lay the color down heavily.
Picture 4.
Sienna brown is laid down now, to rough out where I want the shadows to be.
Picture 5.
I've used light peach to rough out where I put the highlights. *note* I am not filling in the skin that will be covered with transparent cloth now.
Picture 6.
I've now gone over with peach again, to darken and smooth the previous layers.
Picture 7.
Another repeat layer, this time a light coating of Sienna brown.
Picture 8.
Now I've gone back with Dark Umber and deepened the shadows.
Picture 9.
Another layer of peach to smooth things out. I go over everything, including the highlights that I had laid down previously. By now the pencil on the paper is very waxy, so the lightest layers will smooth out immediately.
Picture 10.
Back with the dark umber to bring out the shadows that I've lost with the nineth step.
Picture 11.
Used white and light peach together to bring out the brightest highlights, and added black eyebrows
Hope that helps you a little bit. I'll do more as I work on this image.
